Undersized (Tight) bras can cause breast cancer

A new study suggests that women wearing undersized bras may harm their breast. Researchers at the Harvard University revealed that bra that is too tight may restrict blood and lymph circulation and lead to breast diseases, including breast cancer. Undersized bras also cause constriction of the breasts, which could lead to plugged ducts, discomfort and pain.
More than 80 % of women wear wrong-sized bras. Following symptoms may be associated while using the wrong size bras:
1. Frequent shoulder strap adjustment and backs that ride up.
2. Uncomfortable, perspiring cleavage during hot weather.
3. "falling out" when bending at the waist.
4. Unattractive, lumpy bosoms under tops.
5. Tight straps causing redness and pain of shoulders and/or sides.
6. Shoulders indented with grooves.
7. A badly fitting bra may cause back problems, muscle tension and even headaches.
8. Numbness in arms or fingers.
9. Reduced arterial circulation.
Assessment of fit & proper bras:
a. Wide shoulder straps are comfortable and support the weight of the breasts well. Narrow straps can cut into the skin of shoulders under the extra weight.
b. The band should fit firmly and snugly against the body all the way round and should not move on bending & stretching.
c. A woman should able to fit 2 fingers under the band – not more.
d.Gap between cups is a common sign of a loose bra.
e. The back of straps should be parallel, or preferably, sitting in a slight V shape as this will allow for the band to be loosened by the clasp over time. If the V is upside down, this suggests that the band is too tight.
f. The front of the band pulling down below the bottom of breast suggest tight band.
g. Breast-feeding bras with under-wires should be avoided as wires can constrict the breasts and can cause mastitis or plugged ducts, discomfort and pain.
h. A breastfeeding bra with breastfeeding flaps is ideal for breastfeeding mother. Nursing woman should use a 100% cotton bra, as it allows passage of air, which is necessary to dry moist spots and prevent infection.
